What Happens After 12th Grade at Hope and a Future Learning Center?
A question we’re often asked at Projects For Asia (PFA) is: What happens when a Hope House child graduates from 12th grade at the Hope and a Future Learning Center? (Click here to read more about the center.)
The answer is one of growth, opportunity, and responsibility.
At PFA, we recognized that many of our students had the desire to continue their education but still needed support to achieve that dream. In response, we created a pathway that allows them to take their next steps forward—with us.
Graduates are invited to join an accredited associate’s degree program while transitioning into a new role at PFA—as junior staff. Though no longer Hope House “children,” they remain a part of our family in a new capacity that reflects their maturity and expanding responsibilities. This transition sets a clear example for the younger children, showing that growing up comes with both opportunity and responsibility.
As junior staff, these young adults receive a small salary, mentorship, room and board, and the first term of tuition and uniform fees—covered by PFA. In return, they contribute meaningfully to daily life at PFA: supporting the office with administrative tasks after school, helping care for the children at night, and filling in on weekends when Hope House staff are off duty.
This structure helps them develop vital life skills such as time management, financial responsibility, and leadership. By managing their salary to cover school expenses and save for the future, they learn what it means to stand on their own—within a safe, supportive environment.
Our goal is to prepare them not only for academic success but for a future of independence—with a strong foundation of values, experience, and care.
